Review
In "De Olho Her" we meet Bea, a blogger focused on plus size fashion, who has always questioned how TV and fashion are aimed at a specific type of person and body. Well resolved with herself, Bea has a well-established life, with the career she dreamed of. After another episode of the reality show "It's to marry", she ends up making some comments on social networks about the lack of diversity of the candidates, and this goes viral. And it is then that she receives an invitation to be the next protagonist of the reality show, seeking to find a new love.
With no intention of falling in love, but wanting to show a plus size protagonist, and even further leverage her career, Bea ends up agreeing to participate, without imagining everything that is behind a program of this level. In addition, she will need to meet different types of people, deal with the media, which can be quite invasive, and with her own thoughts and fears.
This was a very enjoyable book to read. First, for having a protagonist outside the beauty standards that we usually see around, and even one that seems well resolved with herself. The second interesting point is that several parts of the story are told through emails, social media posts, text messages, etc. In addition to the episodes of the program or the moment being narrated by the young lady herself. This gives a really cool dynamic to the book.
We can also experience the reality and backstage behind a reality show, and even start placing bets or rooting for some of Bea's suitors. At the same time that we see a young woman who seems well resolved with herself, we still have a woman with a lot of personal issues to deal with, and we know how exposure can undermine what we think we know about ourselves. The writing is engaging and fun, with a healthy dose of romance and drama. The reading goes by very quickly, and it is certainly a recommendation.
